Sloan’s primary focus is establishing DSD in retail stores throughout Montana to increase SNAP users’ access to beautifully and locally grown fresh produce. Sloan received her bachelor’s degrees in Environmental Science and Organismal Biology from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin where she led a research project examining the effects of agricultural runoff on a small pond and the critters in it. She also volunteered at a nonprofit urban aquaponics farm called The Farmory and this further sparked her interest in food access and sustainable agriculture. Since then, she has become a certified Aquaculture Technician and has dreams of having her own system and a small “hobby” farm someday.
Born and raised in the Upper Peninsula of the Great Lakes State, Sloan has always had a love and appreciation for nature in and of itself. She loves hiking, camping, looking out for wildlife and bird watching and also enjoys seeing new places and National Parks. Outside of the outdoors, Sloan enjoys playing chess, reading, crocheting, cooking, baking bread and testing the fruits of her green thumb.
