We’re so excited to welcome Anna Weinberg, center, to our staff as the Fall Intern joining Dave Renn, left, and Mary Ellis, right, with the Beginning Farmer and Rancher program. Anna has a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and Conservation Biology from the University of Wisconsin and has been in Missoula for just over a year. It’s always interesting to learn how people decide to join us in various capacities and how fortunate we are to attract such passionate and qualified folks.
CFAC: So, Anna, what attracted you to this position? I’d heard a lot about the good work CFAC does, and I wanted more experience working in small non-profits focused on local issues.
What is the goal of your internship both personally and professionally? To gain more non-profit and community organizing experience, as well as to give back to a community I’ve grown to love.
Where are you from, how did you get to Missoula? I’m from the Midwest, but came to Missoula when my partner started her grad program at University of Montana. I spent the last year as an AmeriCorps member serving with Climate Smart Missoula, and I’m happy to still be here soaking in Missoula’s magic!
What is one thing about Missoula you noticed first that was different from other places you’ve lived? Everyone’s love for the winter season and winter recreation. Coming directly from Wisconsin, I had a very different relationship with winter when spending months with -30 degree windchills. My favorite recreational activity then was staying inside!
Who has inspired you in your life and why? My family: from my grandparents to my parents to my brother, they have always centered fights for justice, community resilience, and building local power into everything they do, professionally and personally.
Where would you like us to find you on a snowy afternoon in January? Under a mountain of blankets looking at cookbooks and scheming a new winter soup recipe.
What are you most grateful for? Everyone fighting their good fights—I’m grateful to work with people so passionate about what they do.
And CFAC is grateful you have joined us!
