It’s Fall! And that means it’s time to start thinking about next year’s farm operation! Whether you’re a brand new beginning farmer or a seasoned operator, there are some great courses being offered online this fall and winter to get you ready to roar for next year.
In addition, we’re considering offering a one-time, 2-3 hour financial planning class this winter in Missoula or Butte that would help farmers:
- Clarify overall goals for starting a farm
- Set specific short, medium and long term household income goals for the farm
- Understand basic accounting concepts and practices
- Explore strategies for marketing and selling farm products through Community Supported Agriculture, farmers markets, grocery stores, restaurants, and wholesale channels.

The New Entry Sustainable Farming Project is offering a Farm Business Planning course online. It’s eight weeks and it’s based out of Boston, but if you’re out of that area, you might be able to get them to let you take the online part alone… Here’s the link!
You can access Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education’s (SARE’s) courses online anytime! They have two courses – one on the basic principles and concepts of sustainable agriculture and one on strategic planning and marketing. Click here for more info.
